Planned blasting at gravel pit near Calgary's Lafarge plant sent false alarms across the city's northwest Monday afternoon.
Reports of an explosion were seen on social media after a loud noise startled residents in the northwest communities of Harvest Hills and Hidden Valley, as well as in the city's northeast.
"I felt my house shake," tweeted Mike Blanchard.
"Huge explosion in NW," tweeted Krista Wiebe.
Tom Sampson, Deputy Chief for the Calgary Fire department, confirmed the blast occurred during work at a gravel pit.
"We weren't aware of (the explosion) at first," said Det. Travis Ibach with the Calgary Police, saying police were made aware of it after the fact.
There are no reports of injuries.
