Vancouver police say a pit bull was stabbed to death on Wednesday afternoon at a Vancouver beach.
A 72-year-old man was walking his pug on Kitsilano Beach around 1 p.m. when he was approached by a woman walking her pit bull, police said in a statement.
After a brief introduction, the pit bull suddenly bit down on the pug's neck. When the two owners could not separate their dogs, the man stabbed the pit bull to death with a folding knife.
The pug was rushed to a veterinary hospital to get stitches to its neck. Animal control were on scene and attended to the pit bull. Marcie Moriarty of the BC SPCA says officials will perform a necropsy on the dead dog. Police say both the dog owners are co-operating, and charges are not being considered at this time.
