As the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah approaches at sundown on November 27, 2013, there will be people — both Jewish and not — suddenly finding themselves with a craving for latkes. Those fried potato pancakes, often found on breakfast menus throughout the year, are a traditional dish served on this holiday, and fortunately, there are plenty of Toronto restaurants willing to oblige.

But that's not the only thing Hanukkah requires in the way of celebration. Adding to the fried list are sufganiyots, deep-fried round jelly doughtnuts that, in recent years, have been given modern flavours like apple-vanilla with brandy, according to Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

And then, of course, there are the dreidels (the four-sided spinning tops) and the gelt (the chocolate coins), which work together in a children's betting game that few understand, but all enjoy. (For actual rules, check out My Jewish Learning.)

With eight days of Hanukkah ahead, there's plenty of time to get your grease (and spin) on. Check out where to find Hanukkah goodies throughout Toronto, and feel free to suggest your own finds in the comments below:
