Canadian Forces: Tory Fundraising Tweet A 'Human Error'

Oops: Canadian Forces Accidentally Tweet Tory Fundraiser
CP

OTTAWA — A retweet about a Conservative party fundraiser by the Canadian Forces was simply an accidental human error, the National Defence Department said Friday.

Spokesman Daniel Lebouthillier told The Huffington Post Canada that the Canadian Forces did not mean to retweet a tweet from Employment Minister Jason Kenney about a Conservative Party of Canada fundraiser for MPs Gerry Ritz and Leon Benoit. The tweet was deleted.

“It was just human error. We are not endorsing the Conservative Party or their fundraisers, it was just a click on the wrong place which happens with Twitter,” Lebouthillier said.

An NDP staffer, Scott Harris, tweeted a screen capture of the Forces’ tweet and questioned whether the department had over-stepped its non-partisan role.

Lebouthillier said Kenney had tweeted two items, one about the fundraiser and another related to the Filipino community travelling to Trenton to thank the Forces for their work in the Philippines, which DND meant to retweet. However, an employee clicked on the wrong link.

“We posted the wrong one about the CPC [Conservative Party of Canada] and then we deleted it.”
