Who says Valentine’s Day is only a celebration of romantic love? We think it should be a celebration of love in all of its wondrous forms, which is why we’re smitten with this family’s themed photo shoot.

Amanda, the beautiful mother of this family, admits that she hasn’t always been a fan of Valentine’s Day. “I hated the commercialism and forced feeling of it all,” she says. “Now that I have a family, though, I have found a new appreciation for the holiday. It is all about celebrating the unconditional love our family shares and showing our boys how to love.”

You’d be hard pressed to find that kind of sincere emotion in a Hallmark card! Scroll through the photos from Hough Photography to see vintage-inspired celebration of the love this family shares, especially on Valentine’s Day.

More from Amanda… “When Liz approached us about modelling for a vintage Valentine’s Day shoot, I jumped at the opportunity. My husband and I love the vintage style and simplicity of the ’40s and thought it would be a wonderful fit for the outdoor shoot. I took inspiration from movies like The Notebook and put together a look for us all with simple things we already had.

"When I’m excited about a project I do it 100 per cent so I even learned how to pin curl my hair and do a period updo! I loved getting all dressed up, having beautiful hair, and bright red lipstick! It actually makes you feel different and approach the whole experience from a very different perspective. My husband and boys simply enjoyed running around in the fields, getting muddy and taking wagon rides!"

This year they are spending their first Valentine’s Day in their new home, Amanda notes. "It will be quiet and include a nature walk, baking cookies, and lots of hugs and kisses. And if my husband and I are lucky it will also include a quiet snuggle on the couch watching TV with a glass of wine after the boys are in bed! I can’t think of a better way to spend Valentine’s Day!”

  • Kisses That Stick

Dior lipstick is universally acknowledged as amazing, but your mom might not want to dole out the kind of cash it requires — so make this one a Valentine's treat (and maybe a tradition). <a href="http://www.thebay.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/en/thebay/gift-guides/bq-2014valentines-gifts-75/rouge-dior-0002-86458753--24" target="_blank">Dior Rouge Dior, $36, The Bay</a>.

  • Hug A Mug

For nights spent in the armchair reading, Mom needs a big mug to make sure she has all the tea (or coffee) she wants. <a href="http://www.starbucksstore.ca/valentines-day-mug-14-fl-oz/011032264,en_CA,pd.html?&srule=Featured&start=0&sz=16&cm_sp=HPA1CA-_-valentines_day-_-012914&cgid=valentines-day" target="_blank">Valentine's Day Mug, $10, Starbucks</a>.

  • Sitting By The Fire

Candle collectors often get tons of interesting and creative candles for gifts, but they don't get beautiful votives nearly enough. Change that up this year. <a href="http://www.thebay.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/en/thebay/gift-guides/bq-2014valentines-gifts-75/valentino-votive-holder-with-tea-light-0053-6530562--24" target="_blank">ORREFORS KOSTA BODA Valentino Votive Holder With Tea Light, $40, The Bay</a>.

  • Standing Room Only

This is meant to be a cookbook stand, but can also function perfectly well as a book holder for an e-reader or tablet. Plus, it'll replace that old plastic thing she's been using for years. <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Joseph-CookBook-Compact-Folding-Bookstand/dp/B006BSBYGO/ref=sr_1_24?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1339669857&sr=1-24" target="_blank">Joseph Joseph CookBook Compact Folding Bookstand, $30, Amazon.com</a>.

  • Spruce It Up

If your mom has a Kitchenaid stand mixer that she got for her wedding, she might be a bit sick of looking at it. Give it a surprise makeover with a decal from Etsy (<a href="http://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/96645082/vinyl-damask-decals-for-kitchenaid-mixer?ref=sr_gallery_12&ga_search_query=kitchenaid+mixer+decals&ga_ship_to=US&ga_search_type=all&ga_facet=handmade&ga_view_type=gallery" target="_blank">there are tons on the site</a>).

  • Bite Into It

Obviously, you know chocolates are the biggest food item going on Valentine's Day, but if you want to switch it up for your mom's sweet tooth, try out a candy-covered pretzel. <a href="http://www.twistedsisters.ca/products.html" target="_blank">Twisted Sister, approximately $2.25</a>.

  • Get Away With Her

As much as you might want to treat your mom to a trip, that may not be in the cards right now. So set the intention with a set of notebooks that will help keep her organized (and hopefully help her plan for your someday trip!). <a href="http://www.papyrusonline.com/gifts/journals-and-notebooks/cavallini-paris-mini-notebooks-set-of-3.html" target="_blank">Paris Mini Notebooks (Set of 3) by Cavallini & Co., $9.95, Papyrus</a>.
