A PQ minister is facing criticism after tweeting a photo of Olympic medalists Chloé and Justine Dufour-Lapointe wearing 'Team Quebec' clothing.
Pierre Duchesne, Quebec's Minister of Higher Education, Research and Science and Technology, posted the photo Tuesday night, a Photoshopped version of an image from the Canadian Olympic Foundation. Users on Twitter were quick to take issue with using an official Team Canada photo to promote sovereignty.
The tweet comes amid focus on the success of athletes from Quebec during the Sochi Games. Olympians from la belle province have won six of Canada's 10 medals so far.
A spokesperson for Duchesne told Global News that the minister "didn't know" the picture had been Photoshopped.
“He found the photo pretty and Quebec had performed well,” the spokesperson said.
Asked about Quebec's medal count if it were a separate country after winning a gold medal, Canadian skier Alexandre Bilodeau told a British reporter that “We’re both proud to be Quebeckers,” gesturing to his teammate Mikaël Kingsbury, according to The Globe and Mail. "But we’re very proud to be Canadians … yes, we do a lot of good things in Quebec but there are great things all across Canada."
Well said.
