Failed Edmonton mayoral candidate Kerry Diotte is throwing his hat into the federal politics ring, announcing Wednesday he would seek the Conservative nomination in the new Edmonton-Griesbach riding.

Diotte, a former columnist with the Edmonton Sun and one-time city councillor, tweeted his intentions Wednesday afternoon.

β€œI found public service incredibly rewarding and would love the opportunity to continue,” he said in a press release.

Edmonton – Griesbach is one of several new federal seats created by a redistribution to accommodate Alberta's growing population.

Diotte finished a distant third place in last fall's race for mayor.
