Hockey Night stalwarts Ron MacLean and Don Cherry will still play a role in the broadcast. Here is the full press release from Rogers.

With rumours swirling that beloved Canadian talk show host George Stroumboulopoulos is next in line to host "Hockey Night In Canada," CBC announced today that his long-running interview show, "George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight," will be ending after 10 years.

"George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight" will end after this season. Program aired on CBC for 10 years.

According to The Canadian Press, Stroumboulopoulos is pegged to be the next host of "HNIC." One can speculate that by cancelling his talk show, it paves way for the long-time Canadian host to switch gears and start fresh on another show.

TSN reporter Bob McKenzie tweeted Sunday the CBC host of "George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight" will become the face of the show when Rogers Communications Inc. takes control of Canada's NHL broadcasting rights next season.

Stroumboulopoulos, who was a presenter at the Canadian Screen Awards on Sunday, was not made available for comment. A spokesperson for Rogers' Sportsnet also declined to comment.

Stroumboulopoulos is a six-time Gemini Award and Canadian Screen Award winner who has worked as a television personality and radio broadcaster with CBC since 2005.

He's most notable for his time at MuchMusic, where he frequently reported on alternative and rock music, earning him a cult following. More recently, he worked for CNN on the short-lived series "Stroumboulopoulos," which aired last summer but was not renewed.
