You have probably heard the odd rumble about a place called Cascadia, but has anyone ever really explained what it was?

Cascadia is an independence movement and proposed country combining Washington and Oregon states as well as British Columbia, according to a grassroots group called Cascadia Now!

So what would life be like for British Columbians if we lived in Cascadia?

  • We would look something like this

    Oooooooo!
  • And this would be our national flag

Created in 1994 by Portland's Alexander Baretich, the flag represents the sky above, the ocean, Salish Sea, lakes, and inland waters below, according to CascadiaNow!
  • Our national holiday would be on May 18

Mount St. Helens erupted on May 18, 1980. According to the CascadiaNow!, the date was chosen "because of it's visceral reminder of the dynamism of our region. We live under massive forces that shape our world, in a region defined through it's geography, geology and topography."
  • We would have our own soccer league
    YouTube
  • The Mariners would really be ours!
    Facebook
  • We would get to hang out with these two all the time
    IFC
  • This would be our national beer
    CascadiaNow.org
    It's called Cascadian Dark Ale.
  • This would be our national swag
    Facebook
  • We would still tell rain jokes
    Facebook
    OF COURSE we would.
  • And we would have as much national pride as ever
