Michael Tkachyk is thrilled with his $7 million lotto win – especially considering he originally thought his payout was only going to be $70,000.
“I checked it at the ticket checker, but I didn’t really know how much we’d won. There are no commas in the display,” said the Cochrane, Alta. man in a news release.
Tkachyk checked the sum at a convenience story, brainstorming all the way home what he could do with his winnings.
It wasn't until he went online later from home when he realized he'd actually won a lot more in the March 5 Lotto 6/49 draw.
Immediately he texted his wife, Deidre, who wasn't home at the time.
“I said it was important,” he recalled, saying she didn't call back right way.
“Then I texted again and said it was urgent. Then I said it was really urgent.”
The couple is still deciding what to do with the money, but they say they will keep working.
