ICBC Refund Cheques Will Be In The Mail

ICBC Refund Cheques Will Be In the Mail

ICBC customers who want to find out if the public auto insurer owes them money will have to wait for a letter in the mail.

ICBC will be informing affected customers in the next 90 days and mailing refunds with interest in July.

In the meantime, you can verify if your vehicle description is correct in their records at http://checkmyvehicle.icbc.com/check/. However, that website won't be able to disclose if you're owed money, as previously reported.

This month, the Crown corporation revealed that database errors resulted in about 240,000 optional insurance customers being overcharged over the last six years. The average overpayment was $21 each year per customer.

Another 350,000 optional insurance customers were charged too little but ICBC says it won't be trying to recoup that money.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story stated customers can check on the ICBC website if they're getting refunds. In fact, the website is only for customers to check if their vehicle description is correct in the ICBC system. ICBC optional insurance customers will have to wait for a letter from ICBC if they're impacted, said a spokeswoman.
