Two Alberta men have been charged after a hoax had at least one person convinced they had been witness to an abduction.

Grande Prairie RCMP went out on the hunt for possible kidnappers after they received a call Wednesday night from a citizen who said they had spotted a person tied up with a bag over their head in the back of a U-Haul passenger van.

It all turned out to be a hoax, however, after police discovered the van in question parked behind a restaurant on the west end of the city.

Police said the accused individuals had been taking pictures and acting out the abduction while driving in the city.

Two males, aged 24 and 21 and both from Grimshaw, Alta., were arrested and charged with being a common nuisance and breaching a recognizance. Both are in custody pending a bail hearing.

The third person in the van, a female, was released.
