A 21-year-old man from Vancouver Island has been charged with manslaughter in the death of an infant.

Victoria police and paramedics were called to a downtown McDonald's on Saturday morning for a baby who was not breathing. "All attempts to save the infant were unsuccessful," said Const. Mike Russell in a news release.

The suspect travelled with the baby in a stroller from a home in Esquimalt to downtown Victoria by bus, said police. They're asking anyone who rode the No. 14 B.C. Transit double-decker bus between 7:30 and 8 a.m. on Saturday to contact Det. Const. Phil Davies at (250) 380-6273.

The baby was under six months old, reported The Times Colonist.

There's a court-ordered publication ban on any identifying details about the baby, the accused, or their relationship.
