Outdoor cooking season is here and if you're looking for a little kick to add to your stack of boring condiments, pesto is the answer. From pastas to salads to seafood, you can add this sauce to just about anything.
Classic pesto is made with garlic, pine nuts, basil, olive oil and Parmesan cheese. Other versions include pesto with mint, spinach, lemon zest and sun-dried tomatoes. But is it healthy? For the most part, pesto's main ingredients (nuts and cheese) can make the sauce calorie dense and pre-packed pesto has a lot of sodium. To be safe, make your own!
