Mutilated Black Bear Dumped In North Vancouver Park

The body of a bear with its stomach cut open and its skull and claws removed was found dumped in a North Vancouver park.

People in Capilano River Regional Park spotted the mutilated carcass close to popular walking trails and a kids' camp on Monday, according to the North Shore Black Bear Society.

It's unclear how the bear died and how the carcass got there, but the body parts were removed by humans, conservation officer Sgt. Todd Hunter told CBC News.

The bear could have been dead for as long as a week, reported the North Shore News.

The legal bear hunting season in B.C. runs from April 1 to June 15, but hunting is not allowed on the North Shore. It's possible the bear was killed legally somewhere and then dumped in North Van, conservation officer Ashley Page told the newspaper.
