A group of students from Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary School in Surrey, B.C. are speaking out about the ongoing teacher-government labour dispute.
In a video posted to YouTube last week, students are seen acting out their disappointment and frustration when they realize all of their extra-curricular activities are cancelled, as well as speaking right to the camera about their feelings on the situation.
"I don't think using children's education as a leverage is good and we shouldn't be put in a position where we have to suffer a dispute between adults," one teen said in the student-directed video.
"The current B.C. teacher strike is causing a lot of conflict and is affecting us all in a variety of different ways and putting our education at risk," states the video description.
"We have a right to a good education, and all we ask for is to have this right back."
On Wednesday, the B.C. Labour Relations Board ruled that the provincial government's decision to cut teachers' pay by 10 per cent was within its right. Shortly after, the teachers union threatened a full-scale strike, which could start as soon as June 16.
However, the union has admitted it cannot afford to pay teachers during escalating job action.
Google searches for "private schools" in B.C. have spiked since the strike began, The Vancouver Sun reports.
