Johnathan Jake Cardinal Arrested In Adam Grove's Death

Suspect Arrested In Fatal Hit-And-Run
EPS

Edmonton police have apprehended the man believed responsible for the hit-and-run death of Adam Groves.

Police confirm Johnathan Jake Cardinal was arrested near Jasper Avenue and 90 Avenue Monday morning, around 10:12 a.m.

Cardinal was identified at the suspect last week, after Groves, a 33-year-old father, was run over by his own truck on June 13 while trying to prevent someone for stealing it.

Police say the events of the day began when they tried to stop a couple in a stolen Ford F-150 truck, but gave up the chase when the fleeing vehicle reached high speeds in a residential neighbourhood.

About an hour later, officers found the truck ditched in a parking lot; the couple had just left the vehicle and were fleeing on foot.

The female was apprehended but the male jumped into a nearby 2006 Dodge Ram truck that had been left running and ran over the truck's owner as he tried to block the theft.

Groves's family released a statement on last week, pleading with the suspect to "do the right thing" and turn himself in.

Groves is survived by his wife and two children, a seven-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl.

Cardinal is facing charges of manslaughter, criminal negligence causing death, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, and theft over $5,000.
