Meet Peanut, The Winner Of The World's Ugliest Dog Contest (PHOTOS)

This Is Apparently The World's Ugliest Dog

Meet two-year-old Peanut, the world's ugliest dog.

The mutt from North Carolina was named top dog at this year's World's Ugliest Dog Contest in Petaluma, California on June 20, winning a grand total of $1,500 in prize money. Peanut, who is suspected to be a Chihuahua-Shitzu mix, was said to have an energetic personality, wide eyes, wild hair and an unforgettable smile.

But Peanut, along with many dogs at this year's contest, grew up with a horrific past. Peanut's owner Holly Chandler says her dog was burned as a puppy, which has left bald batches all over his body.

Chandler plans on using the prize money to help pay for the veterinary bills of other animals who have also experienced mistreatment.

"We're trying to use him as a poster child for what can happen to animals who are abused," she told the Associated Press.

Running for its 26th year, the contest scores dogs on unusual and special attributes, personality and "natural ugliness." Last year's winner was Walle, a huge-headed (and may we add, adorable) duck-footed beagle-boxer-basset hound.
