People who live in Aldergrove are being advised to boil their water for at least a minute before drinking after coliform bacteria was detected at a water sampling point.

UPDATE July 7: The advisory has been lifted. The Fraser Health authority says water samples taken now show the system is clean and free of any traces of coliform.

A low level of the bacteria was discovered, prompting the Township of Langley and the Fraser Health Authority to issue the advisory on Friday evening as a precaution. They said the boundaries of the affected area are east of 260 Street, west of 276 Street, north of 24 Avenue and south of 36 Avenue.

Residents should bring their water to a rapid, rolling boil for at a minute or more before using it to drink, make infant formula and juices, cook, brush their teeth, prepare food, or make ice.

The boil water advisory does not affect homes in the City of Langley and other water systems managed by the township.

More sampling and testing is being done in the meantime.

Coliform bacteria are commonly found in the environment, but can indicate the presence of more harmful viruses or bacteria like E.coli.
