If you've decided that this week is the week that you're going to start eating healthy, let us make one suggestion to you: stay away from the breakfast sandwiches.

Oh yes, we know they're delicious, those egg, cheese and meat creations ensconced in breaded goodness, but they're also packed full of calories and fat that won't do your body any favours as you start your work week.

A study from 2012 found that breakfast sandwiches specifically have an immediate (and negative) impact on arterial health, making it more difficult for blood to flow properly. These menu items were studied because so many people do eat them regularly, and while we're all for indulging every once in a while, that kind of stress on your body is really terrible in the long run.

With that in mind, we took a look at the nutritional information for breakfast sandwiches readily available in Canada. The average number of calories in the breakfast sandwiches we looked at was 420, while the average number of calories in a bowl of oatmeal with fruit, for example, is 190.

We also came across some surprising findings, namely that English muffins have fewer calories than other breads, and that for whatever reason, bacon, egg and cheese can come in a variety of calorie forms.

So, how'd your go-to sandwich rank? If it's not in the slideshow below, let us know and we'll find out for you.
