Calgarians living on the edge of the city's northwest are being warned about a large grizzly bear seen wandering through the area.

A bear was spotted in the Blue Ridge Estates area of Tuscany on Friday morning, roaming through Janelle Donaldson's back yard.

“He looked at me and I said ‘get out of my back yard’ and he left,” Donaldson told the Calgary Sun.

Blue Ridge resident Barry Potter told CBC News he, too, saw the bear as he was leaving for work around 7:30 a.m.

"He looked at me and I looked at him and he just kind of sniffed and kept walking," he said. "He was heading west, away from Tuscany towards Cochrane."

Brendan Cox, a spokesman with Alberta Fish and Wildlife, told 770 News the bear is likely travelling in area looking for food.

And while wildlife officers have yet to locate the large bear, officials are asking people to keep pets and children indoors.

Fish and Wildlife is asking anyone who sees the bear to report it to the Calgary district office by calling 403-297-6423.
