Whoever said there's not a lot going on in rural Saskatchewan?
A car chase challenged that notion Saturday when a truck was found abandoned near "The Ruby" in Rouleau, where people were readying to celebrate the end of filming for "Corner Gas: The Movie" on the same day, CBC News reported.
"It was probably the worst spot to leave that vehicle," RCMP Sgt. Paul Dawson said.
"There were so many people there because of the festivities that were occurring over the weekend."
Stephanie Martens, 27, from Okotoks, Alta., faces numerous charges, including impaired driving, in connection with the chase that began in Weyburn, Sask., Saturday morning.
At that time, the RCMP attempted to stop a 2014 Dodge Ram with a Manitoba licence plate after it was stolen from Calgary but the truck took off north on Highway 39, moving so swiftly that officers abandoned their pursuit.
Police later received a report from an RV driver that the truck had struck their vehicle close to Milestone. Officers from Moose Jaw looked to set up a spike belt close to Drinkwater before police heard that the truck was moving west, not far from Wilcox Village.
The RCMP searched the area, as well as a number of grid roads before they found the truck with a cracked windshield next to "The Ruby," The Regina Leader-Post reported.
People on the set then helped lead the RCMP to the suspect, who was arrested close by.
Filming for "Corner Gas: The Movie" lasted about a month and the film is set for a theatrical release in December, Global News reported.
