Unless there's a nutrition label on everything you consume, it's hard to know the exact number of calories in the foods you eat. On top of that, the addition of grams and serving sizes only adds to the confusion.

An infographic bynews site Evoke.ie, tries to make sense of calories by looking at how some of our favourite foods add up to 200 calories. For example, 588 grams of green broccoli and 51 grams of multicoloured gummy bears both equal to 200 calories. Moral of the story? Stick with the healthy stuff to fill you up.

Calories are units of energy found in the food and drinks we consume on a regular basis. Health Canada recommends adult males between the ages of 31 and 50 with sedentary levels of activity should have about 2,350 calories a day. Women in the same age group on the other hand, should consume around 1,800 calories a day.

Calories are either burned off when we exercise to produce energy or stored as fat, notes the graphic. Easy ways to burn off 200 calories include going to a 37 minute dance party or playing an hour of bowling.
