All-Female 'Ghostbusters' Idea Gets Bill Murray Seal Of Approval

Bill Murray Reveals His Picks For An All-Female 'Ghostbusters'

Melissa McCarthy. Kristen Wiig. Linda Cardellini. Emma Stone.

In Bill Murray’s dream world, these four women are his top draft picks for an all-female “Ghostbusters” reboot.

Speaking to press while promoting his new film “St. Vincent” at the Toronto International Film Festival, the “Ghostbusters” alum told the Toronto Star he’d like to see his co-star McCarthy in a fresh twist on the ‘80s comedy classic.

“Melissa would be a spectacular Ghostbuster. And Kristen Wiig is so funny – God, she’s funny!” he told the newspaper, adding that Cardellini and Stone would round out the cast quite well.

Murray expanded on his casting thoughts about an all-female “Ghostbusters” franchise in an interview with Access Hollywood's Scott Mantz.

“It sounds great to me. It sounds as good as an idea as any other! There are a lot of women that could scare off any kind of vapour!" he told Mantz. “No, it’s a grande idea, I don’t know who they’re talking about, but it’s a good idea, I would watch it! I mean, I love Robert Palmer’s videos, so why wouldn’t I love the female Ghostbusters?”

For those who don’t know, production of “Ghostbusters III” is expected to start production in early 2015.

Last week, “Ghostbusters” and "Ghostbusters II" director Ivan Reitman confirmed to HuffPost Live that Paul Feig is in negotiations with studio reps about coming on board to direct the reboot. Feig seems like an ideal fit, having worked with McCarthy and Wiig in “Bridemaids” and Cardellini in the cult-hit TV series “Freaks and Geeks.”

“There were always going to be women involved in the next iteration of ‘Ghostbusters,’” Reitman said. “Paul seems to be the perfect director to sort of bring that about.”
