Brazilian photographer Klaus Mitteldorf decided to approach the very everyday substance of water with a sense of wonder. Here are his photographs, and his findings.
Water. What is the obsession and enchantment with this thing – so unique, and at the same time, so common?
We are born from it and we live surrounded by it, but in spite of that, contact with water is always a source of emotion. Nothing inspires me more than water… the ocean, a lake, a river, a swimming pool; it doesn’t matter. I have developed a very personal, eternal relationship with it.
The water world is extremely fluid and viscous. It has a magic texture … and involves us completely with a thin layer of strong energy. Seeing the world through it provokes unprecedented, unpredictable visions, as the water itself.
Through the water, I see a much more inspiring word. I create distortions, images out of focus, mirages; and with these things, I make my art simpler and very passionate – but true. The water could fool us, but never changes the essence of things, and I like that. It’s us, put to the test in another environment, with different reactions. A paradise for someone like me, who loves visual experiments!
Instant wonder... this is it!
