Bear Caught Sleeping In Calgary Tree, Shocks City Councillor

Bear Sleeping In A Tree Shocks City Councillor

A Calgary city councillor got quite the shock this morning when she went out to collect her morning paper and spotted a bear sleeping in a nearby tree.

Coun. Diane Colley-Urquhart tweeted that the bear was taking a nap in a big spruce tree approximately 15 feet from her front door.

Fish and Wildlife officers responded to the call in Bayview shortly after 7 a.m. Friday morning, telling people to stay in their homes for safety, reports CTV News.

According to CBC News, authorities tranquilized the bear so they could move it back to the wild.

Calgarians are being warned about wild animals, after a summer snowstorm walloped the city earlier this week.

Ken Uzeloc, director of the Calgary Emergency Management Agency, told the Calgary Herald there have been several sightings of bears, bear cubs and even a bobcat.

Fish and Wildlife authorities say the animals are likely drawn to the city in search of food, hoping to fatten up before winter sets in.
