Don Iveson Meets 'Big Bang Theory' Stars In Trekkie Gear, Is Alberta's Biggest Geek (TWEETS)

Edmonton Just Hit Peak Geek With This Photo

Forget peak oil for a moment; Alberta's capital just reached peak geek!

Edmonton Mayor and known "Star Trek" fan Don Iveson wore a shirt from the series as he posed with "The Big Bang Theory" stars Kunal Nayyar ("Raj") and Simon Helberg ("Wolowitz") at the city's Comic and Entertainment Expo over the weekend.

But Iveson wasn't just there to gladhand with celebrities. Before delivering a speech about the city's future, he took off his suit to reveal the "Star Trek" shirt underneath, The Edmonton Journal reported.

He then polled the audience as to whether they were "Star Trek" or "Star Wars" fans. If public approval can be counted in sound volume, the Trekkies won that poll.

Speaking to Global News, Iveson said "Star Trek" touches on questions such as "how we get along as a species and even with diversity."

"And I think a lot of the questions that get asked in 'Star Trek,' and the working together that people do to solve them, is the same kind of stuff that faces Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the world, about how we get along, how we solve problems together, and how we make ethical decisions," Iveson said.

The mayor's face was a prominent fixture in social media photos from the event.

But his wasn't the only recognizable face to appear at the Expo.

Also in attendance were rocker Alice Cooper, "Hannibal" star Mads Mikkelsen and "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" actor Dean Cain.
