Here's the good news: cancer rates in Canada are the lowest they've been in a decade, and death rates from cancer are on the decline.
Here's the not-so-good news: there were still approximately 191,300 cases of cancer diagnosed in this country in 2014, and an estimated 76,600 deaths. That still makes it the biggest killer in Canada, according to the Canadian Cancer Society.
But it's incredible to see what kind of work is being done by researchers and organizations across the country to prevent cancer in all its many forms. Between developing genetic tests to help prevent relapses to finding ways to help more people benefit from immunotherapies, our medical research is at the top of its game.
