In what can only be deemed a bizarre (and glaring) omission, late comedienne and actress Joan Rivers was not included in the annual Academy Awards In Memoriam montage.
The tribute, which began with a heartfelt speech by Meryl Streep, paid homage to visionaries including Robin Williams, Mike Nichols, Maya Angelou, Richard Attenborough and Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Rivers was notably absent from the list.
Twitter subsequently blew up with rage. Here are some of the angry tweets that surfaced after the snub:
No Joan Rivers in the montage??? She basically created the red carpet which makes all of these bitches millions. For shame!!!— billy eichner (@billyeichner) February 23, 2015
Joan Rivers is gonna surprise us after the commercial break by being alive I guess #InMemoriam— Shalyah Evans (@ShalyahEvans) February 23, 2015
Whatever intern put together that memorial montage is gonna get chewed out tomorrow for forgetting to include Joan Rivers— Seth Fiegerman (@sfiegerman) February 23, 2015
