Chris Brown Not Allowed Into Canada To Play Toronto, Montreal Concerts

Chris Brown Isn't Allowed Into Canada

Convicted felon Chris Brown was denied entry into Canada, forcing the cancellation of two concerts.

As the rapper tweeted on Tuesday in advance of his Feb. 24 scheduled appearance at Montreal's Bell Centre:

He was also scheduled to play in Toronto on the 25th at the Air Canada Centre.

We can't say it comes as a surprise. Rumour had it that border problems were the only thing keeping Brown from performing alongside Canadian-born rapper Drake at his annual OVO Fest in 2014, and as Vice reported last year, many hip-hop acts have been stopped at the border, leaving fans with tickets and not much else.

Brown also had to postpone his tour in January after a judge denied his travel request. As he wrote on his Instagram at the time, "This is the most disappointing news I've gotten in a while. Everything happens for a reason so I wanted to personally inform my fans."

Though Brown didn't expand on his lack of entry to Canada, the CBC notes he's had problems with the law several times, including pleading guilty to a felony assault charge for hitting his then-girlfriend Rihanna, as well as being convicted for a 2013 felony assault for which he served two days.

Under Canadian law, immigration officers can deny entry into the country if you have "committed or been convicted of a crime."

Following Brown's announcement, Twitter users poked fun at the singer's situation.
