What a difference a year makes!
The Edmonton Arena Corp. released a timelapse video Tuesday of the first year of construction of Rogers Place, which broke ground on March 3, 2014.
The mesmerizing video starts off a bit slow, but about halfway through we begin to see signs of outer wall construction and the stands inside.
The total tab for 18,559-seat facility is $480 million. Edmonton taxpayers are to pay $219 million, while Oilers owner Daryl Katz's share is $143 million. Another $125 million will come from a ticket tax.
Eventually, the arena district mega project will include office towers, condos, retail, a public square, and a community ice rink — all linked by walkways and designed to be used winter and summer.
