It's a love story that sounds like it's almost out of the movies.
A Kentucky couple, who had been married for 73 years, died only five minutes apart last week. The couple's son Doug, according to the video above, got a phone call at 3:52 a.m. on April 7 from a nursing home when his 93-year-old father William Wilson had passed away. But just minutes later, Doug also received another phone call from a separate nursing home to tell him his mother had also passed away.
"I told the nurse, you're not going to believe this, but my father just passed away a couple minutes ago,'' Doug had told the Lexington Herald-Leader in Kentucky. "She said, 'Oh my God, like 'The Notebook.' It shocked me, and I just stayed numb for a while, not knowing what to do.''
The movie's plot is a little different compared to the Wilsons; both parents had been suffering from Alzheimer's so they lived apart.
Earlier this year, another elderly couple married for 67 years died holding hands just hours apart. And although stories like these are incredibly romantic, some say it's science too. Turns out the "Broken Heart Syndrome" is a heart condition caused by stressful situations, including the death of your partner, Mic.com reports. This could explain why couples who have been married for a long period of time may pass away around the same time.
