Just because your barista is nice to you doesn't mean they're thinking nice things about you.
In the video by Buzzfeed above, 15 coffee shop employees come clean by sharing some shocking confessions. From swapping in decaf for mean customers, to stalking the regulars online and even hooking up with a customer or two... or three, these anonymous truths will change the way you look at your local barista.
But before you judge your local coffee shop worker, you might want to stop and think about what's going on behind the counter. Whether it's acting as a 'baristapist' (that's a barista who doubles as a therapist) or simply knowing and serving everything a customer needs, these workers do a lot more than serve up some lattes.
According to the National Post, most baristas struggle to keep a smile on their faces while battling serious back pain brought on by mixing up your brew.
Maybe it's those smiles that keep bringing customers back? After all, as Forbes contributor Peter Ubel argued in 2012, Starbucks employees might actually have more emotional intelligence than physicians, likely as a result of their intensive customer service training.
But again, that doesn't mean you should be telling them your life's story. Online counseling service In Your Corner is trying to put an end to that trend with the release of a comedic new ad, which promotes talking to professionals instead of the guy or girl handing you your cup of joe, reports Fusion News. And hey, let's face it, after hearing these confessions, you probably don't want to overshare with your barista anymore anyway.
