7 Must-Have Temporary Hair Colour Products To Get Pastel Locks At Home

A low maintenance alternative for people who want to dabble in the mermaid hair trend without having to commit.

If "My Little Pony" and "Jem and the Holograms" have taught us anything, it’s that pastel-coloured hair is everything.

The growing trend of dying your hair playful shades of powder pink, green and lavender is of course partially due to our favourite celebrities rocking the whimsical look.

Nicole Richie, who’s no stranger to experimenting with a wild trend and owning it, was one of the early adopters of the pastel hair trend, first sporting lavender locks in March of 2014. Katy Perry, Kesha and Kelly Osborne have also succeeded in obtaining mermaid-approved tresses. And we can’t forget Rainbow Bright in the flesh, model/DJ Chloe Nørgaard who gave the runway a little unexpected splash of colour long before anyone else.

Despite the trend’s happy demeanor, it’s not one you should take lightly. Darker hair typically needs to be stripped to a platinum blond before applying the pastel shade.

That being said, you can still participate in the hair club for mermaids by testing out the waters using temporary hair colour like hair chalk. It’s a low maintenance alternative for people who want to dabble in the trend without having to commit.

In our quest to get the look, we dug up seven temporary hair dyes to try this summer.
