Stop us if you've heard this before. A king is betrayed by his brother. A rightful heir to the throne is exiled. Meanwhile the kingdom crumbles. The heir later returns. There's a power struggle. Lives are lost in the process but balance is restored.
If this sounds like the Coles Notes of Shakespeare's Hamlet, you're not wrong. But it's also the plot line for "The Lion King". And while the movie is renown for it's award-winning soundtrack, you might remember it better as that film that brought you to tears when Mufasa died.
Sure, that scene definitely took our tear ducts by surprise but it's not the only shocker the film had in store. Even 21 years later, the iconic film still has a couple of surprises left for viewers.
