Princess Charlotte Christening: Get The Details!

Princess Charlotte has made her second public appearance in true royal fashion.

Princess Charlotte has made her second public appearance in true royal fashion. On Sunday, Princess Charlotte was christened at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, the same place where her late grandmother Diana, Princess of Wales, was christened back in 1961.

This is the first time the two-month-old girl has made a public appearance with her entire family.

The private ceremony had many similarities to Prince George’s baptism in October 2013. Both services were conducted by Rev Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, and both siblings wore a christening gown by the same designer (though not the exact same one). The Princess, like her brother, was christened with water flown in from the River Jordan.

Only close family attended the service, including the Princess’ great-grandparents, the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, her grandparents, Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla, Carole and Michael Middleton, and her aunt and uncle, Kate Middleton’s siblings Pippa and James.

Unfortunately, Prince Harry was unable to attend the event since he is currently in Namibia doing conservation and charity work.

Also attending the service were Princess Charlotte’s godparents (and their spouses), who were announced just prior to the ceremony. They include: Sophie Carter (a close friend of the Duchess), James Meade (a friend of the Prince from Eton), Adam Middleton (the Duchess' first cousin), The Hon Laura Fellowes (the Prince's first cousin on his mother's side) and Thomas van Straubenzee (an old school friend of the Prince), with no royal family members in the group at all.

Prince George has seven godparents, who are all close friends of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

While the baptism was a private affair, the Duke and Duchess allowed members of the public to enter the outside area of the church to watch the royal family arrive and depart.

It also marked the first time the family of four had a picture taken all together (albeit with Charlotte in a carriage):

Prior to the christening, a Kensington Palace spokesman said: “The Duke and Duchess are hugely grateful for the warm wishes they have received since Princess Charlotte's birth – many of them from local people in Norfolk – and are delighted the paddock can be opened on the day of the christening.”

Princess Charlotte was born on May 2 at St. Mary's Hospital in London. Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, who is fourth in line to the British throne, is the Duke and Duchess’ second child. Their first born, Prince George, turns two on July 22.
