Thirteen people have been sent to hospital in three separate collisions along the Coquihalla Highway south of Kamloops, B.C.
The most serious crash involved a "minor collision between two vehicles and then kind of a domino effect thereafter where there were multiple vehicles and heavy traffic in very poor conditions,” RCMP Cpl. Brian O’Callaghan told Global News.
One vehicle rolled several times down a steep embankment, police told Infotel News.
Eight people were hurt, with one of them taken to hospital in critical condition. The highway was closed for several hours after the crash.
The second incident involved several vehicles and saw three people in stable condition brought to hospital.
A third accident put two people in hospital after a single-vehicle rollover shortly before 1 p.m.
BC Ambulance spokesman David Weir said the causes of the crashes have yet to be determined but that there was significant hail and rain in the area at the time.
