Now, with the help of makeup genius Pat McGrath, Kardashian is channelling her idol in a spread for Violet Grey magazine, portraying a modern day version of Taylor's Cleopatra.

The images, which were photographed by Ben Hassett, are the first installment in a series for the mag, where McGrath will reimagine paragons of old Hollywood glamour with new faces.

"Ms. Kardashian West -- the most scrutinized woman of our time, as Elizabeth Taylor was in hers -- is the model for a re-examination of the Cleopatra tales from 60 and 2,000 years ago," the magazine writes in the shoot's accompanying article.

The black-and-white virtual cover shows the 34-year-old reality TV star wearing heavy eye makeup with molten mini-feathers glued into wings.

Another shot features the Vogue Spain cover girl rocking liquid gold eyeshadow and brows, and Egyptian-inspired eyeliner.

"Elizabeth Taylor's makeup in Cleopatra has been reenacted countless times, but for Kim I wanted to create a version that has never been done before, a futuristic 3D version," McGrath told the magazine. "I wanted to portray a luxurious decadence by using elements of ornate facial jewelry constructed into shapes that pay homage to Egyptian culture, and of course to the rich exotic character that Taylor played in this role."

"I love Elizabeth," Kim added. "Pat and I have had conversations about how iconic she is, and how iconic Cleopatra is. I would have done anything -- I would have trusted Pat's vision no matter what she wanted -- but I was really excited that it was the Cleopatra vibe."
