Sheer dressing isn't for the faint of heart. Most of us have spent our lives trying to hide our undergarments (cough*clear bra straps instead of the dreaded tank + bra strap combo*cough) rather than show them off...except in the 2000s when visible thongs peeking out from ultra low jeans were a thing (we blame you, Sisqo).
However, when done correctly, sheer layers can actually be classy and sexy at the same time.
Case in point? Halle Berry's appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Monday, where she wore a sheer turtleneck and black pants combo that was definitely a style win, albeit risque.
Here's what we learned from Halle's lesson in sheer dressing:
1. Opt for a sheer top with some coverage: Rather than go for a sheer tank or tee, Halle went for a long-sleeved turtleneck which served as a nice juxtaposition of demure and sexy.
2. Wear undergarments, and make sure they are nice: When going sheer, opt for something nice to wear underneath, meaning no ratty bras or underwear. And make sure it's in the same colour family -- a nude or white bra would have been a definite no-no underneath Halle's black top.
3. Balance out the sheer piece with modest bottoms: In Halle's case, this meant a pair of black trousers. Business on the bottom, party on top!
4. Accessorize strategically: Like Halle, keep your accessories to a minimum to avoid excess fuss. Her black belt with a gold buckle was the perfect complement to her ensemble.
Now excuse us while we work on our ab routine...
