Interview Magazine totally just changed the September issue cover game.
Taking inspiration from the "selfie" and fashion's obsession with social media, the glossy is featuring eight up-close-and-personal celebrity selfies for eight distinct September 2015 covers.
Dubbed the #InterviewGang, the stars include Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Lopez, Victoria Beckham, Zayn Malik, Madonna and of course, the selfie queen herself, Mrs. Kim Kardashian West. It also stars world famous photographer, Mert Atlas.
"We invited each subject to use this opportunity to create something powerful and personal: the utmost expression of themselves," Interview editor-in-chief Keith Pollock said about the portraits. "We definitely encouraged them to push the limits, but we weren't interested in steering them in any way. Our aim was to allow them to create an image that reflects the way the subjects see themselves. And the way they want to be seen."
And truthfully, the results are quite telling. Jennifer Lopez's selfie is quite "highly produced" and glam, while Victoria Beckham's is a candid family moment with hubby David and son Brooklyn in the background.
And as for Madonna's?
"It’s interesting for Madonna because she didn’t give a sh-t," Interview editorial director Fabien Baron told WWD, noting that Madge snapped a few quick selfies between rehearsal breaks while she was on tour.
To "add a more surprising element," Atlas FaceTimed with a nude Cyrus and Kardashian for their covers and accompanying photos.
Atlas also took to Instagram to share screenshots from his racy video sesh with Miley:
And it doesn't stop at just the covers -- Interview has cleverly tapped 150 social media stars from fashion, entertainment and music to share their own selfies for a portfolio inside the magazine.
"Well, it's the future, Andy, and you were right," the magazine writes on its site. "Everyone is, if notworld famous exactly, at least on air. On YouTube, in our tweets and'grams, we are each of us broadcasting 24/7 the reality show ofourselves—projecting the "we" we see or would like to be. In celebrationof that public image, we've invited a gang of our favorite people toshare a personal picture of their own making. This is the imageportfolio and our friends inside, The ultimate #instagang."
