This week, we introduce you to a real-life adventurer, Alberta-based photographer @stephenunderhay. Here he is in his own words.
Hey! I’m Stephen, an adventure photographer living in Red Deer, Alberta. When I’m not at my full-time job as a firefighter, I’m busy shooting landscapes and lifestyle photography.
Exploration and adventure inspire me to take pictures. There’s a value in suffering for a photograph: searching for remote landscapes, being awake when everyone else is asleep. It puts you in the photograph in a very real way – and that emotion can be captured. — @stephenunderhay
My best instagram tip is sticking to the 1x1 format. It provides a unique challenge in framing your pictures and gives it a cool, clean look. — @stephenunderhay
I picked up my first camera last year when I was getting ready to head to Africa! I fell in love with trying to capture the emotion of a scene and brought that love home to the Rockies. — @stephenunderhay
This shot is from the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon. I went on an amazing road trip through the Pacific Northwest and this was one of the many beautiful spots we saw. — @stephenunderhay
@thisworldexists is an account I love. I work with this amazing group of adventurers who want to inspire people to live an active life and use that influence to support sustainable education projects in the developing world. — @stephenunderhay

I’m currently developing a project to climb North America’s highest peaks before I turn 30! I have a love for mountaineering and documenting my adventures. I kick it off with climbing North America’s 3rd highest peak, Pico de Orizaba in November! — @stephenunderhay
