'Walking Dead' Murder Claim: Man Killed Friend He Thought Was Turning Into A Zombie, Say Police

"In my 13 years of doing this, that was the most brutal scene I have ever seen."

A "Walking Dead" marathon mixed with some booze may have led to one man’s death in New Mexico.

Police in Grants, N.M. say Damon Perry, 23, killed his friend Christopher Paquin because he believed he was turning into a zombie and was going to bite him, according to KOAT.

Perry allegedly beat Paquin to death using a microwave and a guitar, and also stabbed him with a knife.

"In my 13 years of doing this, that was the most brutal scene I have ever seen," spokesman Moses Marquez told the station.

Perry told police that he had been binge drinking and watching several episodes of “The Walking Dead” when his friend began to “change into a zombie,” KOB reports.

Cops initially responded to reports of a man running around an apartment complex threatening people with a knife. Officers found two people holding the suspect down.

They discovered Paquin in a nearby suite with a knife inside his head.

Marquez told KOB that he believed Perry’s story: "He genuinely felt that his friend was changing into a zombie due to his inebriated state.”

Perry has been charged with murder and is being held on a US$800,000 cash bond, according to AFP. An initial investigation also found the father of two did not have a history of mental illness.

However, officials say he has had previous alcohol-related run-ins with the law.
