November 11 marks Remembrance Day. While the 11th day of the 11th month originally marked the end of World War I, today it is recognized as a time to pay respects to those who have fought in any war.
As such, the poppy has become the universal symbol for honouring the dead and was famously immortalized in the poem “In Flanders Fields,” by Canadian soldier John McCrae.
