Netflix Canada: What's Good In December 2015?

What's Good On Netflix In December 2015?

The weather outside is frightful, but the Netflix Canada picks for December 2015 are delightful.

The streaming service is offering plenty of titles beyond the holiday picks you usually find at this time of year. But we'd be remiss if we didn't highlight one.

The can't-miss title of this month's offerings is "A Very Murray Christmas," a holiday special featuring Bill Murray and a host of his friends such as George Clooney, Miley Cyrus, Michael Cera and more.

It's easy to dismiss the idea of a Christmas special featuring celebrities until you realize it was directed by Sofia Coppola, the artist behind such great films as "Lost in Translation" and "The Virgin Suicides." We're pretty sure this one will be happier fare.

And that's just one of a number of titles worth checking out on a cold winter's day. We've highlighted some of the better picks below.

"Dawn of the Croods" Season 1

Netflix Canada Picks for December 2015

Movies

"Her"

A love story for the digital age. Joaquin Phoenix plays Theodore Twombly, a lonely man who develops a deep relationship with an AI system voiced by Scarlett Johansson. It's a tough premise to swallow until you realize the depth of love and passion that went into this film's making. Spike Jonze won a screenwriting Oscar for it for a reason.

"Where the Wild Things Are"

Another strong offering from Spike Jonze is this adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic children's book. Max Records plays Max, a boy who is whisked away to a magical land populated by fearsome-looking, yet vulnerable monsters. The late James Gandolfini masterfully voices one of them.

"Ninja Assassin"

Not a pick for the moral, or the weak of heart, or even really for the holiday season, if we're being honest. But "V for Vendetta" director James Teague's actioner is wickedly good fun, with Korean star Rain starring as Raizo, a ninja who flees his order and must evade warriors who travel in darkness.

TV

"F is for Family"

Bill Burr may be the world's funniest angry comic. Here he channels his energy into a story about his childhood in the 1970s, in a Netflix original series.

"The Good Wife," season 6

Julianna Margulies plays Alicia, a lawyer who tries to balance her career with her family life after her politician husband (Chris Noth) ends up in prison. Season six sees the show branching into new topics of entrepreneurship and Alicia's own political aspirations.

Kids and Family

"The Adventures of Puss in Boots" season 2

The suave swordsman of "Shrek" fame ventures out on his own in this Netflix outing.
