Even so, people have still come to fear it 11 years later.

The factors include debt levels incurred from the holidays, the long cold winter days and more recently, failed New Year's resolutions.

In fact, a recent Ipsos Poll found 73 per cent of Canadians who made New Year's resolutions would inevitably end up breaking them.
