We'd like to apologize to the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos, because Beyoncé just won the Super Bowl with one brilliant Michael Jackson tribute.
Mrs. Carter blessed us mere mortals with her presence at Super Bowl 50 at the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. on Sunday, joining headliners Coldplay and Bruno Mars for one massive throwback performance, honouring the most-talked about performances of past Super Bowls.
Paying homage to the late and great Michael Jackson's 1993 Super Bowl XXVII halftime show outfit, Beyoncé donned a military-inspired leather jacket embellished with a thick gold metal harness across the chest during the performance of her new track "Formation" (which has been blowing up the Internet since its surprise release on Saturday evening).
The black and gold custom DSQUARED2 ensemble, which gave us major bandleader vibes, also featured chunky heeled Christian Louboutin boots similiar to MJ's iconic halftime gig loafers. Blue Ivy's mom also lead her gang of female warriors in fishnet tights and a black Ashton Michael bodysuit, just the vibe Canadian's Dean and Dan Caten wanted to create for the superstar.
“We love Beyonce and wanted to create something where she resembles a warrior leading her female posse who fall into formation and take Super Bowl 50 at half-time!” the DSQUARED2 designers said, according to Hollywood Life.
Rocking a centre-part, the "Single Ladies" artist wore her curly, auburn hair down, allowing us to admire how glorious her long hair truly is as she whipped it back and forth during her "Uptown Funk" dance battle with leather-loving Bruno Mars and t-shirt-wearing Chris Martin.
As for her makeup, the artist once known as Sasha Fierce opted for a creamy golden purple eye shadow, bold brow and glossed nude lip.
To top off her tribute to the "Billie Jean" star, Bey accessorized with some major bling from Lorraine Schwartz. In total, it is said Beyoncé rocked 100 carats of jewels, including gold football studs and multiple diamond rings.
This isn't, of course, Queen B's first Super Bowl appearance. Remember when she literally shut things down in 2013? That's right. Known as the great power outage of Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans, Beyoncé had such an electrifying performance, including throwing it back with a Destiny's Child reunion, that she caused a 34-minute blackout in the stadium, proving that she truly is too hot to handle.
All we have to say is, Beyoncé completely SHUT.IT.DOWN. tonight. Because ... in case you missed it, she also decided it wasn't enough to take over halftime — she made all the other Super Bowl ads pale in comparison when she took this opportunity to announce her 2016 world tour.
We think Michael would be proud, too.
Long live the king (and queen) of pop.
