For the singing of "The Star-Spangled Banner" at America's biggest sporting event of the year, the National Football League enlisted one of the biggest stars in music and television to take on the honour.
Lady Gaga dazzled in glittering red Gucci suit during her performance of the national anthem for Super Bowl 50 where the Carolina Panthers face off against the Denver Broncos in Santa Clara, Calif. The recent Golden Globe winner, who has said singing at the Super Bowl is a "dream come true," joins the ranks of Beyoncé, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston as American artists who have had the privilege to take the field and sing for millions around the world.

The "Born This Way" songstress did America proud, slaying in an ensemble of red, white and blue. Her platinum blond, slicked-back mane was accompanied by shimmering red eye shadow (which matched perfectly with her blazer and wide leg trousers) and electric blue nails. And to top things off, Mama Monster wore two different colours shoes. That's right, football fans. Gaga donned custom Gucci platform sandals (one blue, one red and white) with animal medallions (Are those... panthers?!)

Gaga (born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta), who joins Coldplay, Beyoncé and Bruno Mars as the 2016 performers, sat down with Canadian-born former NFLer Nate Burleson in a pregame interview and said being asked to sing the national anthem was one of the "highest honours of her career" thus far.

"I get a chance to sing for all the athletes who have been working so hard their whole lives for this moment," Gaga said. "It marks what being an American is all about."
The 29-year-old singer, who is preparing for a hectic February with upcoming performances at the Grammys and Oscars later this month (the first ever artist to play all three, FYI), had many on social media singing her praises after her on-field performance.
