Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show: Beyonce Upstages Coldplay, Drops World Tour News

She transformed San Francisco's Bay Area into the "Bey Area."

With her performance at the Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show, Beyonce successfully transformed San Francisco's Bay Area into the "Bey Area."

The 34-year-old superstar made a triumphant entrance partway through the mid-game performance, with a choreographed military-inspired rendition of her latest song "Formation," which just dropped on Tidal a day earlier.

Her ferocious grooving followed and overshadowed a medley of Coldplay's low tempo hits, which began with "Yellow," before breaking into "Viva La Vida" while accompanied by the many violinists of Youth Orchestra Los Angeles. The Chris Martin-fronted band quickly segued into performing snippets of their hits "Paradise" and "Adventure of a Lifetime" before they stepped aside for Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, who brought down the house with their electrifying hit "Uptown Funk."

It was then that Beyonce came out for her first mic drop moment — to perform a song that was barely 24 hours old for the public — before engaging in a dance-off with Mars. The two briefly sang a duet on the reprise of "Uptown Funk," and were later joined by Martin to finish singing the song. This three-part harmony inspired several memes that mocked Martin's bland persona, an occurrence he jokingly anticipated earlier this week in an interview with CBS News.

Academy Award-nominated actress Anna Kendrick also weighed in with a similar observation, writing:

Still, in spite of their show-stopping stage presence, Beyonce and Mars took a temporary backseat as Coldplay's "Clocks" and "Fix You" played during a highlight reel of halftime show performances of yore. After shining the spotlight on a series of memorable headliners from Michael Jackson to Diana Ross and Bruce Springsteen (but not, it should be noted, Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson), Martin went to the piano to lead a group singalong of "Up and Up."

When Beyonce and Mars re-emerged for the grand finale, the audience saluted the Halftime performers with a message of "Believe in Love," created with signs given out to all attendees in the stadium.

While Coldplay took up the most airtime, Beyonce's presence remained the most memorable part of the entire Halftime show. The "Crazy in Love" singer certainly livened up the Levi's Stadium with the first live rendition of her surprise new single, but she also used this platform as an opportunity to break the Internet once again. Seconds after the Halftime show was over, Beyonce announced she would be embarking on a new "Formation" world tour.

Tickets will go on sale on Feb. 16, and will hit the pre-sale on Feb. 9. So far, two Canadian dates are on the roster so far, and Beyonce will visit Edmonton on May 20 and Toronto on May 25.

Beyonce also announced an initiative with the United Way specifically to help the children of Flint, Michigan who are affected by the current water crisis, with proceeds from the concerts, reported the Detroit Free Press.

That's what we call running the world.
