If there's one thing we want this Valentine's Day, it's to have a perfect hair day.

Sure, chocolate and diamonds are a girl's best friend, but for that lovey-dovey date on Feb. 14, whether it be with the girls or that special someone, we want to flaunt a chic hairdo that is totally cute (and totally attainable).

In the video above, Aveda's creative director, Kristjan Hayden, walks you through how to create a romantic ponytail that is simply gorgeous for your day full of love and all things pretty (and delicious). The effortlessly sexy hairstyle, which delicately frames the face, is just right for any girl who wants to keep things simple yet playful. And isn't that what V-Day is all about?

For this look, you'll need a few little things: a comb, a curling iron or wand, two elastics, bobby pins, hairspray and dry shampoo.

And keep in mind, DIY gurus, of a few key things, especially when creating the base of this 'do. First, for that perfectly messy texture, you'll want to create curls in your hair using a wand. Curls will give your locks that extra hold and substance it needs. And don't worry, you don't need to keep those picture perfect ringlets in — simply brush through your hair to give it those soft, old-Hollywood curls that are easier to work with.

Our next key is the secret ingredient for volume: dry shampoo. A few spritzes of the good stuff and the creation of your ponytail will be so much easier.
