The Best Time Of Day To Poop

When you gotta go, you gotta go. But the truth is, the best time to go is right after you get up.

According to Dr. Kenneth Koch, gastroenterology chief at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, the best time of day to poo is first thing thing in the morning.

As Koch explains to Women's Health, our small intestine is busy breaking down all the food we ate the night before, so it is ready to be pushed out within 30 minutes of waking up.

If you want to get into the habit of pooping when you wake, you might want to try sipping on some coffee, which stimulates movement in the colon. Warm water with lemon also works, or check out this list of 16 foods that fight constipation.

And if you can't go in the morning, that's okay too, while morning movements are ideal Dr. Stephen B. Hanauer says the golden rule of poop is regularity, since a constantly changing routine can mess with your bowels. For some, pooing three times a day is the norm, for others it might only be once every three days. As long as it is consistent, there is nothing to be concerned about.
